I have lived in the Philippines for 50 years so I guess I am more than qualified to answer this. The daily wage in the Philippines is between Php 300-500 ($6.38-10.64), that means you need that amount of money to decently lived in the Philippines if you are single. It's in the lower rate if you will live in the province and at the higher end if you will live in the national capital region. Cost of living in the Philippines is low especially in the Provinces where rural areas are. If you eat in the eatery where you can see everywhere, one meal will cost you around 40-50 ($1). There are also small bakeries in the neighborhood which sell cheap breads and the ubiquitous sari-sari store (variety store) where you can buy goods in smaller packages. Rent in an apartment is at least Php 6,000 per month in the city. But if you are alone, you might prefer to stay in a boarding house or lodging house. Depending on the age of the property, you may find one within the price range of Php 3,000 – 5,000. The minimum fare in jeepney which is the most popular public vehicle has been lowered because of lower oil prices from Php 8.00 to Php 7.00. In some cities there are tricycle that will bring you from the main route to your house and the pay is the same. If you are in pain and needs to have a doctor to check you up, professional fee is around Php 450 in the Province. Need to relax? A full body massage will just cost you 200 – 400. Hope this helps

You can live in the Philippines (as a bed-spacer/dorm-mate etc.) such as in Manila city and have a simple lifestyle as a single, NOT STUDYING ,AND PERHAPS BE A WORKING PERSON, ON A SIMPLE JOB, for less than P20, 000 a month. It is cheaper in the provinces outside Manila, but of course some may find provincial life boring sometimes. If you think of dollars to be exchanged for peso rate, think of the dollar equivalence to P20,ooo. U.S. S 1.00 is P47.02 as of today.
