I can so relate to this feeling — this feeling of moving somewhere quiet or more simple. Island living. I first considered this in 2005 and I am again reconsidering it. the questions that I ask myself are as follows: What would I be giving up and saying goodbye to i.e., am I selling a house? quitting a career? How long can I live the simple life voluntarilyWill I get island feverThere’s issues with tropical living that many don’t think about – some examples are rolling black outs and brown outs, high humidity weather means nothing lasts — particularly electronicsI am sure you are aware there’s a low season which means rainy season —- this means raining every day for what seems like days on end. Not to mention typhoons.Where are you from – it means you’re used to a certain environment. Let’s say you’re an engineer and really into philosophy – there might not be that many people that you would meet that are like you. You’ll have to adjust. Are you single? You’ll mostly meet tourists, people on long term vacations or digital nomads. It will be hard to meet and date and develop a relationship. Not saying it’s impossible – just saying the people you meet will tend to be transient. In the event you do meet someone – let’s say he or she agrees to stay in Dumaguete — you’ll have kids. Are you okay to educate them in Dumaguete? That’s not a judgement or good/bad stamp — it’s something to consider. You’ll live surrounded by poverty. Not a judgement – but it’s something to consider. It means lots of things people don’t think about. Or you adjust by confining yourself to a bubble — associating only with tourists or foreigners.

I never been to Dumaguete, but most Visayan People are so friendly. Learn some few words in their language and I assure you will have fun. Good Morning, Afternoon & Evening; Thank you. I am also from Visayan Region but we speak different dialect with similarity intonation. Cebuano is the main dialect in Dumaguete with a slant variation in different part of Dumaguete. Pronunciation of the “word” is the most important in speaking the different dialect in Visayan Region.
