Well, you get a REAL Philippines experience and experience the real culture. By hanging around with your g/f's family and friends and your Filipino neighbours, you will also come to know what is really going on in the country, and get the downlow on everything. Also, being around too many expats will re-create many of the problems you were running away from in the West: constant complaining, competition, bad attitudes etc….
